Daisy (1999-January 21, 2010), died yesterday because we decided that cancer had made her life a constant pain. We hope we made the right decision in timing this.
Daisy lost consciousness lying on the lap of a person she loved, which is a better end than what most of us get.
This is a photo of Daisy, standing on the beach, taken the day after Thanksgiving in 2006.
We met Daisy in the Durham County animal shelter in March 2004. I wasn't inclined to get another dog, but my wife told me I had to meet this one. My wife was right. Whoever owned Daisy before we did was an asshat. Daisy had been abused and had numerous scars, but none of them touched her heart.
I've known and lived with many dogs, enough to know that Daisy was the best I'll ever meet. I'll have more dogs, and I'll love them all. But not quite as much as I loved Daisy.
God speed you Yellow Empress.
