I just got back from a deposition, and a couple of days' personal battery-recharging time, in the deep Appalachian mountains. No internet, no working cell phone towers, and no stress, until I met the bear.
She is far more intimidating, up close, than she appears to be on television, in photographs, or at the zoo. She is a truly awesome, and intimidating, animal. She ranked with the dolphins I met while swimming in the intercoastal waterway as the most impressive wild animals I've encountered in their own element.
So intimidating that I didn't think to pull out my phone to take a picture. I just watched her for a couple of minutes, and when she noticed me, I walked away slowly.
