Yesterday, I made the leap to a beautiful new Samsung 40" HDtv. I might never leave my house again. This morning, I got caught up in just staring at a nature documentary. I am drawn to the image on the screen whenever it is on. I actually had to turn down the brightness because it was too glaring. I feel like I am very late to this party, but I still want to wax rhapsodic. HD is totally worth it!
In a rare display of restraint, I decided to forgo getting the PS3 (for now!) and made due with my current upconverting DVD player. The picture on DVDs is still darn impressive. I thought long and hard about what movie to watch first. It came down to the LOTR movies, Wrath of Khan or Empire. I went with Empire, and I was not disappointed!
Still, amongst all this joy, there is a tinge of sadness. I bid farewell to my beloved Tivo, as my new cable box is an HD DVR (yes, from the cable company that will soon not exist.) It does some very nice things that Tivo didn't (like record in HD, or record multiple programs at the same time) but it is sadly lacking in live TV features (which I came to rely on) and the 30 second skip. Plus, it just wasn't as friendly & cool as my Tivo.
On a side note, if you have never called to cancel your Tivo service, they sound very sad. I feel like I personally hurt them. It was hard to do.
OK, off to knock Wrath of Khan off the list (that is if I don't get sucked into watching an Arena football game, or some other random sporting event. It's easy to do..)
