This week, the National Intelligence Estimate openly contradicted our beloved President (for about the 47th time, I think..) and said that Iran had stopped it's nuclear weapons program in 2003. This, despite the President's claim in October that to avoid World War 3, we should be keeping Iran from getting nukes. Oh, and the Administrations own intelligence claims from 2 years ago that said the program was still active. This could be the greatest victory of the Bush doctrine, it's pre-emption in the past! Or, we are faced with the disturbing reality that they either are stupid or lying to us in every possible way to keep us scared. Hmm. Can't it be both?
Apparently, the leader of the Free World only heard about this inconvenient little missive last week! You know, he was busy drumming up war time fears against Iran, and didn't have time to read it until then.
The greatest evidence that Bushco is lying and trying to foment fear in average americans is Bush's reaction to the NIE. He said at a press conference today that the news doesn't change his opinion of Iran at all. "The reason why it's a warning signal is they could restart it." said Bush. Well, you really can't argue with that total lack of logic…
