There is a very interesting article in this weeks Entertainment Weekly about Fox News. They were granted full access to Fox's coverage of both conventions. Some really fascinating quotes from the reporters. I think (especially these days) one must have a certain amount of jaded irony to be a reporter for any channel, and this only seems to support that.
A few of my favorites.
Foxnews reporter Shepard Smith loudly proclaiming his heterosexuality: "Is it healthy to watch 24-hour news? I don't know. Is the porn channel healthy? I watch a lot of ESPN. I don't think it's hurting me. I should probably be reading a book, but I'm not."
"Okay, you're right. We quit." A hilarious response by a foxnews staffer to protesters outside their office.
A Foxnews hand in the control room during the Bush daughters giggly intro of Laura "How many shots do you think they did before they went out there?"
"All I want is for this to translate into ratings. I don't care who comes in, what they do – it doesn't matter." Bill O'Reilly putting money before ideology (as I believe all these networks do…)
Let's end with my buddy Alan Colmes, explaining his philosophy vis-a-vis Fox "We're not doing PBS here…"
So true, Alan, so very true.
