I might have a new choice as "worst movie I have ever seen." Over the weekend, I was subjected to "Ginger Snaps." Surely the best werewolf-menstruation-teen angst film ever. This movie was awful. My hopes were slightly spurred when Tivo informed us there was brief nudity. Alas, Tivo was being all too literal, so the movies one potential saving grace was ruined.
This movie is just bad. I think my favorite part was a field hockey game where one of the leads gets checked hard to the ground, and lands on the carcass of a mutilated dog that no had previously noticed. In the middle of the field. Those girls were in such a zone!
A close second is the young man who is slowly turning into a werewolf, and when he is injected with the cure (via a violent syringe injection into his neck) walks calmly off with the syringe sticking in his neck.
I will have to do some soul searching to see if Ginger Snaps is really a worse movie than Eye of the Beholder (a movie so exercable that not even Ashley Judd nude for most of the film redeems it..) but at first blush, it is neck and neck.
In happier movie news, I saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. Now, I am a sucker for those old Republic serials, so this was right in my wheelhouse. The images & art were wonderful, and the story was ok. The concepts were very cool, and the whole movie jelled nicely into a very capable whole. I recommend it.
