David Byron

David Byron is a software developer working for the military-industrial complex. At Popehat, he writes about art, language, theater (mostly magic), technology, lyrics, and aleatory ephemera. Serious or satirical poetry spontaneously overflows from him while he's recollecting in tranquility. @dcbyron

    One can always hope that the cross-species gene transfer was mostly due to love stories.

    Why am I thinking that Carreon would test at 87% australopithecus?

    @Amiable Dorsai

    One can hope that it was attraction human women felt for those big, strong Neanderthal men. The evidence to date (mtDNA) doesn't indicate that human men were at all interested in Neanderthal women.

    2.7%? Impressive, given chimps are over 98% shared. So what planet are you from?

    I'm 99% lemur. All this newfangled folderol and fiddledeedee about hominids is just a passing fad that got out of hand.

  8. Bryan says:

    An estimated 2.7% of your DNA is from Neanderthals.

    except if your African. They get none. ;}
    So the Africans are the pure humans, and us whities are the hybrids. LOL BTW: Some Melanesians picked up an additional 6% Denisovan DNA and that likely happened east of Wallace's line.

    Where do I find this quiz?

  10. David says:

    It's not a quiz. It's the result reported by a personal genome service.

    I'm really kind of surprised that so few readers of Popehat have been genotyped.

    23andMe is a bargain now. I'm glad I didn't wait, but for those who did, it's a good time to buy a spit kit.

    Was it sado-masochistic,
    or maybe clado-atavistic,
    When we got down with the ancestral funk?

  16. Careless says:

    @Bryan: Sub-Saharan Africans also have archaic admixture. We just haven't found anything we can get DNA from that matches yet.
