It's been a while since we've checked in with Vladimir Putin, the world's most interesting Prime Minister:
- Putin promises to build a new, revolutionary fleet of strategic bombers. "We won't limit ourselves to just one new model. … We must start work on a prospective long-range aircraft, our new strategic bomber."
- Putin announces plans to sponsor a Formula One racing team in the name of Russia. The machines, though manufactured by Renault, will bear the "Lada" brand mark. Lada, the former Soviet people's car, was once infamous for the … quality … of its vehicles.
- In economic news, the Prime Minister has dressed down four Russian billionaires for failing to invest sufficient funds in Russia's electric power industry. Putin himself is estimated to have a fortune worth forty billion dollars, making him not just the richest man in Russia, but in Europe.
- And finally, in the world of sport, Mr. Putin appears to be engaged in a power struggle with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev over Russia's dismal fortunes in the Vancouver Olympics. Where Medvedev has issued gangster-like threats against the country's sporting establishment, Putin calls merely for "serious analysis" in the run-up to the Sochi games of 2014. Who will prevail? Our money is on Putin.
