If you've played World of Warcraft for any appreciable length of time (I know that a number of our readers have), would you please consider responding to this anonymous survey?

The survey is promulgated by one of my wife's graduate assistants.  It is not intrusive, nor will it consume a great portion of your day.  It is part of a larger research project on the ways in which self-selecting groups (hence Warcraft) use the internet to obtain desired information from dumps of voluminous yet widely dispersed data.

A randomly selected participant will receive a small cash prize.  I declined my eligibility for the prize, so your odds of winning are that much higher.  As a bonus, by increasing the size of the sample, you will enhance the survey's validity, thereby assisting a promising researcher in her career.

    Is she only interested in WOW players, or any MMORPGs? I used to play WOW, but I've defected to Lord of the Rings Online for the last few years… I'd love to help out if she'd have me!

    After taking the survey, some of the latter questions seem to me to be more applicable specifically to WoW than other online games, but they appear to be the sort of questions that do not strictly require CURRENT knowledge of WoW, if that makes any sense. However, having played LotRO as well as WoW, I think it would skew the study to apply your LotRO experience to these questions. The online cultures have significant differences.

    Besides, as a LotRO player you've self selected yourself out of the target group, haven't you?

    I won't do the survey then – but if there is a LOTRO followup, let me know!

    So for the self-selection… I liked LOTRO better because the community seems more mature – in my kin (=guild), I'm the youngest player, at age 32. But I've been pretty tempted to start a new account on WOW just to join up with you popehat folks. I'm a law geek gamer, and it would be super fun to join up with you like-minded folks.

    On a side note – Today is the first time I've commented on a popehat post, although I've been lurking for a year or so – I'm just drunk enough to respond today :) In other words, please forgive spelling/grammar errors!
