"having the CIA massively fund the same folks that are now trying to blow us up..." This is a lie; I don't care how many times it is repeated, it's still a lie and I will answer it. The CIA suppprted the mujahideen resistance, which included everyone in Afghanistan that wasn't a Soviet collaborator: Shi'ites, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras, Pashtuns, Turkmens, and more. The Taliban is a Pashtun-only Sunni force which developed from a splinter group founded after the Soviets left.

C'mon, it's not like the guy was a KGB agent. Wait, what? Oh. Well, it's not like the bad old days where they went around assassinating people in Lond… Polonium, you say? Frankly, they've rolled things back far enough in Moscow that the Russians are probably itching to send troops back to Afghanistan, just to round out the zeitgeist.
Oh well, at least the Sandanistas aren't DANNY ORTEGA WHAT?
