I Would Have Guessed Chef Before This…

WTF?

My world has been rocked by the admission that Steven Seagal is a genuine sheriff's deputy in Jefferson Parish Louisiana, and has been (heh) for 20 years. Wait, what? How did I not know this? Was this common knowledge, and I was just in the dark?

Can you imagine being pulled over by Steven Seagal? I wonder if uses the same stilted delivery in issuing tickets as he did in every Under Siege movie?

This was a great way to start my Wednesday!

I live in Jefferson Parish and this is sort of terrifying and sort of comforting at the same time.

Hey! The first Under Seige was a fantastic movie. He actually used a couple of facial expressions in that movie other than his patented "I forgot to buy ex-lax and really need some right now."

Shaq is the more intimidating celebrity real cop.

Don't forget he has his very own action-packed card game: "Die, Steven Seagal!"

(No, not really, we just call it that…)

I hadn't known, and find it fascinating, among other reasons, for an action movie actor not to, for twenty years, try to capitalize on something that would, understandably, have a real appeal to his audience.

I loved Under Siege, by the way; it's one of the few action movies I can think of that you don't have to lower your IQ to double digits to enjoy.

So. . . Steven Seagal is probably an authoritarian prick in his "under the radar" real life, too? Color me: Not that surprised.

    Dear FIREhat,

If the idea of "officer Ted Nuget" doesn't strike terror into your heart, nothing will.

And I watched the show last night, and I have to say that barring all else, I have a lot more respect for the guy. This is something he could have milked for – literally – decades, but kept it quiet.

There's something to be admired about famous people being cops, and them never bragging about it.

And apparently, he's one hell of a shot.

I saw him in the french quarter once… he's a lot bigger than I thought… certainly no one to mess with. My guess is that he was deputized specifically to allow him more latitude in the self-defense bodyguard area than a simple concealed-carry permit would allow.

    And I'm okay with that.
