Is this congresswoman also including provisions banning prosecution of crimes having any mens rea element against children under 18? If they're so soft headed and bewilderingly incompetent as to be unable to consent to sex and they're in such constant danger of other kinds of victimization, how can they possibly develop the intent to commit a crime? I bet this hypocrite "See You Next Tuesday" would be first in line to convict a group of 14 year old boys of conspiracy to attempt to think about to consider talking about distribution of drugs. In fact, let's just go ahead and encourage breastfeeding until age 18.

This is just depressing. If the Media Matters people were actually interested in the causes they purport to stand for rather than just finding new and interesting ways to take offense at conservatives, they'd see what Heritage is doing as an extraordinarily promising project that would actually ally conservatives with liberals in a fight that liberals have been passionately waging for years.

An excellent takedown of a dishonest rhetorical trick. I've commented before that the cry of "over-criminalization" has, on occasion, been deployed too quickly (in the case of George Norris, for example). But what Overcriminalized is doing is a great service. Sheila Jackson-Lee's bill is utterly moronic and offensive. I think so as a defense attorney, I would have thought so as a prosecutor, and I guarantee you that 95% of federal judges would agree.
