Karma, She's a Bitch

OK, I know that Apple and AT&T are very different companies, but still the irony of AT&T suing because a smug commerical skewers the lesser performance of an Apple product is delicious, isn't that right P.C.?

I've always hated the insufferable Mac v. P.C. commercials, and I have a similar distaste for the Verizon one. Talk about what your product does, not what the other doesn't.

Haha, before I clicked through I thought the suit was about the "iDon't, DROID DOES" commercials. I guess those would be more of a direct response to the Mac & PC guys, but suing over this is pretty pathetic of AT&T as well. I mean, hello, a cell company (especially this particular one) complaining about customers being misled? Since when were they not in favor of that?

It seems that any comparison of products will have to talk about both products.

No lie, every time I start to think about getting an apple product, and see one of those ads, I change my mind. The only things those things do is convince me to never, ever but an Apple product again.

I even look at my iPod with disgust after one of them.

On the flip side. I'm tech savvy enough to realize what Verizon does to the cell phones it buys, making them brain dead and disabling features.** Them saying they have a great network means nothing if you can't use it. Buying a phone for the Verizon network is often like buying a nice car with 2 flat tires and a steering wheel that only turns left.

**They've been getting away from doing this, but they used to disable most Bluetooth features, disable the ability to use phone's as modems, they'd replace the browser that comes with the phone with their own much less useful one, etc. I think they still prevent you from putting your own music and sound files directly onto the phone, you have to buy ringtones and music from the VCast store.

You can get around the ringtone thing on some of their models by mailing files to your phone. Music-wise, they've opened that up as far as I know.

But yeah–until recently they've been crippling their handsets and claiming to do it for our own good.

Bob, I would love to know how to fix that "can't used mp3's as ringtones or alert sounds.

    I'm only slightly tech-savy…

I wish they still have the enV (the original, non-touch screen version) around. I hate the look and feel of their new phones, but my current "Master Chief Green" enV is starting to show its age.

Re: the "Get a Mac" ads – Not only are they insulting to their possible customer base, but one of the bigger shareholders in Apple? Microsoft…

Microsoft no longer owns significant shares in Apple. They cashed out something like 5 years ago. That deal came at a time when Microsoft was under threat of antitrust action, and their only competitor looked to be in danger of going out of business. That era is long gone.

However, after Apple itself, the leargest developer of software for Macs is MS itself.
