Paul Haggis No Longer Has Control Over Time And Space

Politics & Current Events

Oscar winning screen writer Paul Haggis has angrily renounced his membership in Scientology. He was first angered by the cults non-response to their San Diego branch's support of Prop. 8. This led him to learn more about some of the ugly lies Scientology has spewed, and the horrible things they have done.

He wrote an open letter to Tommy Davis one of the leaders of the cult, taking him to task for various organization wide lies. Now, to those of us who have been in on the clambake for awhile, none of this was new information, but it is getting a lot of mainstream attention. This is (to my knowledge) the first celebrity member to try to expose the ugly inner workings of the cult.

Haggis talks about the much denied policy of "disconnection" where you are forced to cut off all contact with family members or friends that disparage Scientology. He points out that his family has lived it.

The most interesting part of the letter is Haggis' discovery of just how mean Hubbard's cult is to ex-members. Anyone who tries to speak out against Scientology is smeared in the ugliest way possible. I'm a little surprised that this is news to Haggis, as I thought it was pretty open knowledge.

Hopefully, his letter and the ensuing publicity will lead to more adherents taking a closer look at just what they are a part of, and realizing that it is a cult (even though Haggis will never say that.)
