Guess I Picked the Wrong Week to Give Up Coffee

Effluvia

5 barristas in Washington State have been charged with prostitution, because they were charging customers extra for extra-curricular activities. Apparently, to stand out in this corporate Starbucks dominated world, this coffee stand had the great idea to have their barristas wear bikinis. It never occurred to the owners (wink, wink) that the sort of young women who would be ok with using espresso machines and steamers in bikinis might be willing to go a little farther. After all, the owner has all his employees sign a policy manual that prohibits lewd behavior.

The young women, aged 18-24, would offer "shows" for extra fees, charge customers to play "basketball" with crumpled bills as the ball and their underwear as the basket and pose for nude photographs. The Everett police began an extensive sting operation (lasting more than 2 months!) to get to the bottom of this whole thing. The important thing to note here is that this is apparently an epidemic in Everett, the police received more than 40 complaints of lewd behavior at espresso stands, and only went after this stand because it received the most complaints.

In lieu of a punchline, I'll just close with the name of the stand. Grab & Go.

"Hey, Fred, you think we ought to bust 'em today?"

"Shit, no. I think I can get that babe with the This End Up tramp stamp to give me another lap dance."

    "You said that last week."

    "And she did."

    "Good point."

In reading the comments of the original article – I must strongly agree and inquire, in the world of quality, investigative blogging (which is replacing newspapers, you know) – where are the pictures?

Grab & Go is the best place to go for a double tall.

I live right by that coffee stand, I can see it clearly from the road, and I pass it multiple times a day as I go to work and back, run errands, etc. When I read the news this morning, to say that I was not surprised at all by this would be a bit of an understatement. The young women who work there are not at all shy about wearing next to nothing (G-string and pasties), and flaunting it to the extreme (e.g. I've seen the girls squatting with their legs open on the window ledge while holding onto the moulding above the window).

While, I am admittedly "impressed" with their antics, it is a bit of a distraction while driving, although a welcome show while stuck in traffic (Everett is doing construction just up the road from there right now).

An espresso stand where you can drive up and order a latte and female nudity at 7:00 AM on a Tuesday, AND THEY SHUT IT DOWN?

    The terrorists have won.

PS Great use of police resources.

If I'd known about this place, I would have gotten coffee there when I have been in Seattle on business.
