I Don't Get It, But I Like It

Geekery

Personas is a very cool little data mining project. You type in your name and it finds the instances where you show up and classifies them. Their one sentence description "Personas shows you how the internet sees you." I don't totally get the (no doubt obvious to the more tuned in than I) reason for it, but I was interested enough to do it twice & see what changed.

Yeah, it's very interesting. However, one should note that Personas is described by its author as a critique and spoof of data mining methods (cf. "Read More"). In fact the first sentence there is "Personas is a critique of data mining".

I'm not sure it's meaningful, but it is fun to watch. I plugged in my name — Joel Rosenberg — of which I used to be the most famous owner (Joel C. Rosenberg, the Christian convert writer, is clearly moreso these days) in part to see how or if it would distinguish me from him and a few other folks with the same name.

Which was interesting. Then I tried "Joe Penaz" (the real life person who is one of the sources for the Coconut Charlie parodies). Moreso.

And then I plugged in "Jdog Rosenberg"…
