It seems odd to me that the federal agency responsible for guarding things would outsource the hiring, training and employing of guards. The guy in charge of the GAO study was asked about this on the radio and you could almost hear his eyes roll as he referred to it as a policy choice. On the other hand, I did have an incident in which I got held up because my driver's license was expired by a day. I just explained that I had an appointment with Judge Notoriously Cruel on the fourth floor, and if they'd like to call his clerk (by the way, I have her number), and explain that Mr. Patrick can't be there, though he's on the first floor, because he spent his birthday preparing for the hearing rather than renewing his license... Go right through. That was asking for trouble.

When the guard told him he'd have to leave it with them, the lawyer told the guard, "Seriously? I could beat you to death faster with his crutches." The guard was not amused and called his superior over. They got to pull out their wangs and show the lawyer who was boss by making him late for court.
