Michael Jackson is to Mark Sanford What 9/11 Is to Gary Condit

Effluvia

…according to news reports, at least.

RIP. And I mean it. He was obviously a haunted, troubled man.

Oh hell. There dies a part of my childhood.

Yeah. When cultural figures like that die from drugs and car crashes, that's one thing. But when they start to die of heart attacks, that's scary.

He spent half of his life as a joke, but through the Jackson 5, Off the Wall, and Thriller, Michael Jackson was a pop god.

    I'm genuinely upset.

I wish I could find my old forum post about Michael Jackson. I don't really remember the whole story (it involved Jackson thinking some building was a taco bell), but the headline was perhaps my finest work: "Chili Cheese is Not My Lover."

Somewhere, Emmanuel Lewis is shedding a single tear.

There really is no denying that he was a fantastic musician. It's just too bad he turned out so fucked up. But Patrick is right: the Jackson 5, Off the Wall, Thriller– and I'd even add Bad– are all amazing.

I still kinda resent him for "Heal the Word", though. After he did that at the Super Bowl halftime show, the radios wouldn't stop playing it. I hated that song.

There's no guarantee it's just a heart attack. I'd put money on heart attack being the proximal cause and freaky shit being the ultimate cause. He probably incorrectly pressurized a hyperbaric chamber and poisoned himself with chimp dander or something.

That came off as meaner than I wanted it to. I don't fault the guy – I just don't think Ken's point is necessarily on target.
