Radley Balko has an ugly roundup of recent skirmishes in law enforcement's War on Dogs, which we have noted previously.

When the Bullocks returned home from a family member's funeral on Friday, they found blood and three bullets on their front porch – along with a note to call the Blue Ash Police Department about their dog.

Plus: collateral damage.

    Apologies in advance to commenter Dawn, with whom I've had disagreements but who has suffered a serious dog bite and whose distress I do not minimize. It's difficult to communicate seriousness over this medium so I will be explicit: Dawn, this has nothing to do with you.

    But the idea that a chihuahua is a threat to anyone over the age of 5 is a joke. I have no kids. I'm sentimental about my dogs. I love dogs more than I love most people. I confess my biases.

    The officers shot the dog because the officers are cruel assholes.
