The Illuminati do not exist! Please stop posting rumors that we do. Otherwise, we might do something. At least we might if we existed. Which we don't.

I speak merely of my experience with the North Carolina Libertarian Party, of which I'm not a member but with which I have a great deal of sympathy, and similar groups. Apart from Mike Munger, who would be a star in a mainstream party, and the John Locke Foundation (a sharp think tank), the libertarians (capitalized and lowercase) with whom I've interacted are kinda anarchic.

In any case, the idea of fringe libertarians uniting to threaten a bill favored by a Democratic subcommittee head, and having a better message machine, is ludicrous. I wish the HuffPo had challenged her on that claim, but journalism challenging to the likes of Rosa DeLauro is hardly what the HuffPo is about.

I think the idea that libertarians can’t organize is as shallow as the idea that this bill is being opposed by some sort of conspiracy.

If Libertarians can organize, then why are they a minority party?

Maybe she's controlled by Mind Control Lasers.

I love backpedaling. It's a delicious thing to behold, though it sucks when people don't recognize it as such.

I think the idea that libertarians can't organize is as shallow as the idea that this bill is being opposed by some sort of conspiracy.

Certainly libertarian ideology does not lend itself to cooperation in a top-down hierarchical organization. However, people with shared beliefs are often able to organize very effectively in an ad hoc fashion to achieve goals they agree are worthwhile. To me, that's one of the basic insights that has been driving me in an increasingly libertarian direction. When necessary, people are perfectly capable of organizing and then disbanding once a problem is dealt with.

In other words, it seems to me that libertarians dislike control but are neutral regarding association and cooperation.
