The Irrationally Infallible Guide to (re)Discovering America

Effluvia

Over the weekend, a full scale model of the Nina created in Brazil & sailed around the world docked right by my office. They built it adhering to the materials and  process of the time, which is kind of cool. And unlike some of the "faker" tall ships I've seen, there's no motor on the Nina. The striking thing about the ship (officially a caravel for you Pirates fans) is how small the thing is. Supposedly. Columbus logged 25,000 miles on the Nina (which was his flagship.)

I saw this when it came to Sacramento a few weeks back. It is amazing just how small it is – I'd be scared spitless to be sailing that thing on an angry ocean.

It looks top heavy and not at all safe…which I suppose it is. I read nothing about a/c and room service, so a trip on her, for me, is out of the question.

No wonder he wanted to kill everyone he saw. That thing looks like crap.
