Patriotism Swells in the Heart of the American Bear

Culture, Life

Hugh Morton, world traveler and amateur photographer, donated his vast collection of photographs to the University of North Carolina's Wilson Library when he passed away.  Cataloger Elizabeth Hull, charged with assembling and ordering the collection, has set up a blog to document the process.

Known as A View to Hugh, Ms. Hull's weblog, which is just getting off the ground, tells Morton's story as well as that of his photos, at least those we know the story of.  Many of the people depicted in these images are unknown, or were labeled with unhelpful titles such as "Ukrainians," while in a few cases others have stepped forward to identify them.

An ongoing project, A View to Hugh should reward repeated visits through the years. It will surely reward a visit today, the story of an American life well lived, through images.
