Fist Bump

E.D. Hill on Fox News, leading in to a "story" on Barack and Michelle Obama's "fist bump":

HILL: A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently. We'll show you some interesting body communication and find out what it really says.

I know you want to hope that she's being tongue-in-cheek. But follow the link and watch the video and listen to her tone of voice.

Good God, that channel is an unmitigated freakshow.

Edited to add: Sadly, No has a good roundup of the batshit insane reactions to the fist-bump. It's like the hysteria over Elvis' pelvis, only with more racism.

OK, I have no explanation for the 'terrorist' bit. But human interest puff pieces where the anchor plays the square about new-fangled oddities are old hat. It's hard to get worked up about what's obviously meant to be frivolous. It underscores how stodgy the FOX viewership is, but as a sample of provocative newscasting it's rather tame stuff.

Now, what about the Mario Cuomo plagiarism comparisons making the rounds?

It's put in there to continue Fox's associations of Obama with Muslim Terrorists.

It's only going to get worse. Do we see this sort of crap in the Wall Street Journal now that Murdoch has taken over?

I covet Michelle Obama's arms. My arms could never look like that, no matter how long or hard I worked out- darn things just aren't long enough!

I think she could take a Obama in a fight.

Added a link to an excellent Sadly, No roundup of freakouts about the fist bump.
