Town Without Pity, Paper Money, Reliable Waste Human Disposal

Politics & Current Events

If I suggested rounding up all the Ron Paul supporters and putting them into isolated rural compounds, I'd be called a fascist. But somehow when they want to do it to themselves, it's OK?

Some Paulites want to build a community of like-minded individuals:

The goal of Paulville.org it to establish gated communities containing 100% Ron Paul supporters and or [sic] people that live by the ideals of freedom and liberty.

Shouldn't those two categories be one and the same? I'm confused.

The process is forming a co-op of people buying shares in the community and these people would be granted land use at a minimum of 1 acre per share, for as long as they homesteaded the land. The community would be privately held by the co-op to establish private property for the general community thus preserving the community is 100% freedom and liberty lovers. [sic] The community votes on all community efforts, such as utilities etc. However no one is forced to consume these utilities and or pay for them, AKA [sic] people can be off grid on their share of land. This is in line with the ideals that you're free to live your life the way you want and not be forced to do or pay for other people's life styles you may not agree with.

Paulville's founding principles sound suspiciously like the method by which my hippie aunt formed a commune in Oregon in the early seventies. The difference would be less weed and much worse diction.

These communities are not for the faint at heard [sic] they will start as undeveloped land in non city locals, [sic] as this is the way to secure large tracts of land needed for these efforts.

However the goal is a minimal financial outlay of around $500 per share to establish this community.

If you're interested and willing to attempt to literally change the world one community at a time then please Join [sic] us if your interested.

I am not optimistic about the state of public elementary education in Paulville.

However, it's not all bad. Sources tout some attractive features:

  • Glossy brochures assure residents that despite what they may have heard, barbed wire fences are designed to keep people out.
  • Vibrant local political scene, with 500-person town typically processing between eight and ten million internet votes for city office.
  • Free Ron Paul newsletter which bears Dr. Paul's name and likeness, is signed by him, is sponsored by him, and is officially endorsed by him. Note: not affiliated with Ron Paul.
  • Equal Opportunity Homeseller, in that all races and religions have an equal opportunity to persuade Dr. Paul's realty associates drawn from the Christian Identity movement to sell them land.
  • If within six months the lack of basic public utilities reduces you to choice between apostasy and drinking own urine, receive a 10% discount coupon for Ron Paul store.
  • Paul International Airport boasts West's most advanced blimp facilities.
  • Free Kool-aid!

I can see the headlines in the town newsletter now. "Ron Paul loses third straight election for community chair; receives 1% of vote."

If I lived in Paulville, I would DEMAND "reliable waste human disposal."

Was it the Libertarians who had some crackpot plan to all move to Maine or New Hampshire and take over the electoral process? I can't remember if it was them. That seems like a lot lower stress way to go about the same general idea (although, I'm sure the Paulies love the trail blazing aspect of it…)

Yep.. there was a This American Life episode about it. It's called the Free State Project.

I'm pretty sure a bunch of Libertarians wanted to do something similar. They all move to a relatively small area of the US, and dominate the elections there, thereby creating a LIbertarian utopia.

It fell apart when it turned out that the IDEAL place to do this was one of the Dakotas, and no one wanted to live there.
