Gordon Brown Has Spat And Hawked

Effluvia

And disgraced the square where Nelson walked.

The Royal Navy, for centuries the worst scourge of piracy on the seven seas, has been ordered to stand down. The British foreign office has determined that seizure of pirate vessels violates the buccaneers’ human rights. The days of “no quarter offered, none given” are over. Quarter is now a human right.

As if any self-respecting pirate gives a damn about his human rights, and as if any royal navy man should respect them. Blackbeard, Kidd, and Roberts must be rolling in Davey Jones’ locker.

Nice to see that the British government is doing something about global warming.

Snide, witty, and containing an obscure reference — everything a Popehat comment should be. Well played, sir!

By the way, this is only going to encourage the use of the Pirate Resignation Letter.

I feel kind of vindicated here, as I’ve been pleading to TPTB for *months* for the Royal Navy to be nerfed. This may even get me to start playing my pirate character again.

This is why you *sink* pirates, not capture them.

How will this precedent affect certain operatives of Her Majesty’s Secret Service?

Licensed To Bring Actions Before Her Majesty’s Tribunal On Human Rights lacks a certain frisson.
