Denver Nuggets Forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested for a DUI early this week. Putting aside the allegations that he received preferential treatment from local law enforcement (I guess they hate snitches too!) I want to focus on the Spitzer side of this case.
Carmelo made the requisite public apology (although he did not use the phrase “if anyone was offended..” so my apology bingo card is still a little empty..) and instead of bringing his lovely fiance (who apparently was so lovely that she refused to come pick him up at the precinct!) to accesorize the apology, he brought Allen Iverson.
Really? Does that really give you the air of contrition one seeks in such a moment? It’s nice to know his teammates support him (or at least Iverson does) but do his lawyers really think Iverson is the best way to make us feel compassion for Carmelo?
Note: this whole post could just be sour grapes for the Nuggets knocking my beloved Warriors out of the playoffs.
