I made the mistake of getting sucked back into Oblivion. Of course, the real problem with the game is that I invariably spend more time downloading and installing mods than I actually do playing the game. So, after a modest reworking of the entire game, I started off on my adventure.
This time, I was bound and determined to follow the plot of the game, instead of my usual random wanderings. The beauty of the game is that either tactic is viable, and fun. Sure, I spent a few levels wandering around the Imperial City, doing sub quests and looting everything not nailed down, and spent a lot of time just looking at the pretty pictures.
Then, I left the Imperial City. Everything was going quite nicely. Then reality tore. Out of nowhere, a shower of pink squares fell from the sky. It was surreal. Everything around was near photo-realistic impressions of water, trees, etc and here were pink squares floating gently down. I wish I had taken a screen shot, because it was one of the strangest things I have seen. Especially when I got in a fight. a corona of pink squares really take the menace off a goblin…
It turns out that there was something hinky with my installation of the (wonderful) Natural Environments mod, and a reinstall did the trick. For some reason, the sonw texture was replaced with pink squares. Still, the damage was done. I swear I see little pink squares float across my vision every once in awhile. The flashbacks never truly end.
